Last year we released two research reports on Twitter for investor relations. At that point, our sample told us that 35% were using Twitter for IR, in the current report you’ll see this number is now 65%.

However, it’s not all about Twitter. So we expanded our research to include Facebook, Linked, Blogs, YouTube and SlideShare. Their respective adoption rates for IR came in at:

37% Facebook

29% YouTube

10% Corporate blog

10% SlideShare

We included LinkedIn because company pages are created automatically and now anyone can “Follow” any company.

What impresses me the most about the state of the market is just how many companies are using social media . We’ve included hundreds of examples in this report and we’ve literally just scratched the surface.

Investor Relations Website Best Practices for Small Caps

Yesterday Catherine Crofton delivered our first webinar regarding removing the 5 barriers to an effective investor relations website. I come from a web development and media background so I was a bit green to all this IR stuff when I started at Q4 a couple of years ago. Needless to say I’ve been schooled the hard way and have learned internally and from our customers what issuers need to say to their investors.

One of the questions that stood out to me from yesterday’s webinar was when an attendee asked if we had any samples to show how small cap companies are leveraging the IR website best practices Catherine was speaking about. Catherine had shown great examples from some larger companies, namely, Nexen and Potash and explained how they have done a great job of conveying their messaging as well as making it easy for their audience to find information quickly.

Although I can’t share some of the examples from the projects we haven’t launched yet, I can say that part of our project process at Q4 is to help clients realize these best practices through using our modules which have been designed with IR best practices in mind. Throughout our implementation process, we work with our clients to help them improve their IR websites and apply best practices to their site. In the past we have primarily focused on migrating our client’s websites to our platform when they join the family and applying these best practices is now an additional service included with our implementation process.

Since our Spring 09 release, we’ve added Full-Text RSS feeds for news, presentations and events, Share This social sharing which allows any page to be shared through all the social networks, Investor Briefcase, Page-specific meta data and host of of other improvements to our IR website product – that all our clients receive automatically!

Of course we’ve always had email alerts, stock quotes, press release feeds and all the basic IR required items but we’re taking a different approach and simply using these best practices to not only make the IR section better, but to make the overall website better.

Look for a follow-up in a week or so when we launch some before-and-after shots of what we’ve done for a couple of new clients that are in development.

FNX Mining (TSE:FNX.CA) recently launched their website on Q4 Web 3.5. We are pleased to have FNX as another member of the Q4 family! This launch includes all the benefits of our latest platform release including press release RSS feeds.

FNX Mining Company Inc. (”FNX”), a Canadian Nickel Company, produces, develops and explores for nickel, copper, cobalt, platinum, palladium and gold in Canada’s prolific Sudbury Basin. Barrick Gold (TSX, NYSE: ABX) officially launched Q4’s RSS feed for press releases today. RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a technology that allows you to have updated news from your favorite websites sent directly to your web browser or email.

Barrick also recently went live on our latest 3.5 release which includes a whole host of new features in addition to RSS Feeds.

BFI Canada enables Q4’s RSS feeds for Press Releases

BFI Canada became our first client to officially enable our RSS functionality in Q4 WEB. Website visitors can now receive BFI’s press releases in RSS format and we have plans to expand our RSS feeds to include events, presentations and other types of content within Q4 WEB.

We are pleased to announce our latest client, New Sage Energy (TSXV:NSG) recently went live on Q4 WEB. New Sage Energy is a Canadian company focused on oil and gas opportunities in South America. New Sage currently has an equity interest and Joint Venture relationship with Americas Petrogas Inc., a private company with operations in Argentina’s prolific Neuquen Basin.
